A Word From Your Instructor

Hello, I’m Bill Inman, your new painting instructor and the founder of Master Oil Painting.

I guess you’re wondering what makes me qualified to talk about art? Well, I have been a painter for over 35 years, selling my work consistently through galleries since 1983, and my work is in collections from Switzerland to Saudi Arabia and throughout the United States and Canada.

With an artist father I was introduced to the art world at a young age, and still have vivid memories of the Laguna Arts Festival and trips to museums back in the early ‘70s. I was doubly blessed to grow up in inspiring places – with ocean views near San Juan Capistrano, in the woods and creeks of Western Montana and eventually the Alaskan Frontier.

That exposure and the encouragement of my parents fostered a thirst for knowledge and a deep desire to create art. In high school, I had a fantastic teacher, Norma Sharma from Austria, who found opportunities for shows that eventually led to me winning the Congressional Art Award. Then at college, I was blessed to learn under contemporary masters like Leon Parson and Arlo Coles.

With all that said – I have always been aware of my lifelong good fortune to see beautiful places and study with gifted teachers, and that there are many people who wish to develop as artists but never had the opportunity to learn from an encouraging teacher.

I believe it’s my duty and responsibility to share what I have learned and help others to grow as artists.

When I began this community 4 years ago, I wanted to find a way to share my love of painting with like-minded artists all over the world, and make professional art training available to people who might not easily be able to access it due to remote locations, health, mobility problems, finances and any other barriers.

I wanted to create an ‘artists commune’ of people who share the values of appreciation for beauty no matter where they are. Now with the help of my son, technology has made it possible to achieve this.

Everywhere I go I am studying nature; I love it, that’s why I paint flowers and landscapes. Impressionism and Realism are the closest connection to express my fascination with the colors, textures and infinite variety found in nature.

When painting my goal is to use as little detail as possible to convey an image, so the viewer imagines they are looking out a window or doorway into a beautiful scene, that beckons to simply enjoy the peace, serenity and incredible beauty our Heavenly Father has provided.
